Brief Introduction

Chang Liu, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, SUSTC. Dr. Liu’s research mainly focuses on revealing the novel electronic properties of high temperature superconductors and topologically non-trivial materials (e.g. topological insulators), as well as the exotic electronic behavior in graphene and related structures, using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and other spectroscopic techniques. Being one of the pioneers on the ARPES research on iron-based high temperature superconductors (FeSCs), he conducted several early ARPES experiments on FeSCs, revealing the importance of electronic structure dimensionality in understanding their high temperature superconductivity, as well as discovering several Lifshitz transitions (topological changes in the Fermi surface due to doping-driven rigid band shifting) that have direct impact on their superconducting properties. On the field of topologically non-trivial materials, his works presented an exotic surface state in three dimensional Dirac semimetals, and the first example of topological crystalline insulator (TCI).
